Your first checklist

Your first rebalance in SignalDay is four steps. You can do it in about five minutes, and you can do it before setting up email forwarding or entering every account — the sample flow works with what you have.

On the first screen you’ll see a big paste box.

  • Open the email or page your strategy publishes each month.
  • Select the allocation table — the one with symbols and target percentages.
  • Copy it, paste it into SignalDay’s paste box.

SignalDay parses the paste and shows you what it read: the strategy name, the date, and each ticker with its target weight. If any of that looks wrong, you can paste again — nothing is committed yet.

Not ready to try it with real numbers? Click Just looking? Load a sample portfolio on the same screen. That gives you a two-account fake portfolio and a canned signal so you can walk the flow.

If this is your first paste, SignalDay asks for the accounts holding the strategy and the positions currently in each one.

  • Add an account. Give it a name you’ll recognize (e.g. “Vanguard IRA”). SignalDay doesn’t need the account number.
  • Add positions. Ticker and share count for each holding, plus a cash line. Two ways in: type them, or paste a CSV. Either way, no personal information — SignalDay only wants what it needs to price the account and calculate trades.
  • Map any funds your account can’t hold directly (401(k) menus, UCITS-only brokers). You do this once per account; SignalDay applies the mapping every future month.

SignalDay compares your current allocation to the target and generates a trade list per account. Each row is one trade: Sell 12 shares of VTI, Buy 4 shares of BND, and so on. The dollar figures use prices fetched at the time shown at the top of the screen (“prices as of HH:MM”) — the exact share counts you’ll execute are the numbers of record.

Look each trade over. If something looks off — a symbol you didn’t expect, a share count that surprises you — that’s the moment to catch it, not after you’ve placed the order.

Go to your broker. Place each trade. Come back to SignalDay and tick it off.

When every trade is ticked, hit Close this rebalance. SignalDay saves the rebalance to your history so next month picks up from where this one left off.

  • Automate next month’s signal. Set up automatic forwarding so the strategy’s email lands in SignalDay by itself: Gmail auto-forwarding →
  • Set drift bands if you want SignalDay to skip trades below a threshold (e.g. don’t bother if the position is within 1% of target). This is optional; the default is to trade everything the strategy calls for.

If any step didn’t behave the way this page describes, that’s a bug in the page or in SignalDay — email [email protected] and Kurt will fix it.
